Timberline - a novel © Sam Malone 2001-2004 Warning: contains some violence - Cert 12A
  • I will post new chapters here as they are written.
  • Timberline largely follows the American Southern gothic tradition. There are also Pacific Northwest influences. I am actually English though, and the story is set in England.
  • My favourite authors are Cormac McCarthy, Richard Brautigan and Herman Melville. I'd probably have to cite Jack London in this context too.
  • If you like the following, you might just love Timberline:
    • the forest
    • wolves
    • the machinations of fate
    • myth
    • madness
Introduction Read:
The English county of Rutland came into being when a young man won as much land as he could ride around between sun-up and sun-down. The premise in Timberline is that this land was then left in perpetuity to remain ever forested. And wolves run there still.

In tragic circumstance, two babies are birthed deep in the forest. A yearling wolf takes them back to the den for her mother to raise, as her own litter was stillborn.

A group of children live in a village on the edge of the forest. Timberline follows their adventures within and around the forest, which escalate dramatically when their path crosses that of the wolf children.
