Well, we've all been there. Thinking everyone knows what we're thinking, thinking we're directly responsible for events anywhere in the world. Maybe seeing and hearing weird stuff. Maybe you feel that you've died and are wandering, lost, in the Underworld. It's like you've got a new consciousness and an awareness of the interconnectedness of everything. And it all seems more real than anything ever did before. So what's going on?
This situation is nothing new. Amongst all peoples throughout the world, 1% of the population has found themselves in this strange and terrifying place. Amongst indigenous peoples, the individual is considered to be experiencing a shamanic initiation and is taken under the wing of the local shaman. The shaman then teaches the apprentice to live with the new consciousness, and to use it to visit the spirit world, usually to find cures for the tribe members.
This site suggests that perhaps the methods that these shamans use to control their new consciousness can work for people in the western world that suffer from so-called schizophrenia and manic depression.
